Slovak crown to Czech crown

Hi folks,

Coming to Prague in 6 weeks and my brother has some Slovakian Koruna to change into Czech Koruna. Now that Slovakia has gone into Euro (officially), would he still be able to exchange these without any problems?

Thanks in advance

Not possible, I%26#39;m afraid. He would have to go to the Slovak National Bank in Bratislava, and then only until the end of this month.

I think he couldn%26#39;t. SKK isn%26#39;t valid currency.

But he can go to Slovakia and convert it there in any bank to EUR. And Slovakia has transition period till 16. 1. 2009 - in this period you can pay with SKK in all shops and other places and the charge given back is in EUR.

After 17. 1. 2009 he can change it in any bank in Slovakia for free - till 19.1. any amount, after 19.1.09 till 30.7.09 max. 100 coins for free and then till 31.12.09 max 100 notes for free.

Thanks for the correction - of course it is any bank in Slovakia :)

What he could do is hang on to it for a few years and it might be worth something to numismatists (if that is what they are called)...

I must admit it is a bit unusual getting euros out of a Slovak cashpoint, even if you are expecting it - I did it just the other day.

Hi Fellas

Thanks for those swift replies.

Am i right in thinking that Slovakia is the only place he could exchange these now?

I think he could be stuck with these!

Yes - why, has he got thousands of them? If so, he can always make another visit this year and use it as an excuse :)

He won them at the Olympic casino on our last night in Bratislava late last year.

We both forgot the Euro was coming in in January!

Ooops!

Well at least they are worth a lot more now than they were then (at least for the moment)!

That is if by last year you mean 2007! (I%26#39;m still in 2008...)
