prague trip report.

hi all.

we returned few days ago from our christmas holidays in prague.we had a good time there.it was always a city that we wanted to visit since only good things were told by friends who visited the city before.

we flew by czech airlines-good airline company in terms of quality of the aircraft, clean and very smooth flights.food unfortunatelly was poor.

entrance to the country was very quick since it is an eu member as greece.the hotel%26#39;s limo driver was waiting for us and we had a very pleasant drive to the hotel.we were staying at the intercontinental-fantastic location...the rest about the hotel among some pictures in hotel reviews of tripadvisor-simply to add here we expected more from the hotel.

te city is very beautiful.first day we went to the main square with the astonomical clock and to weceslas str. (did i spell it correctly?)and visited the museum there-nothing much to see but beautiful building.we had lunch in a marvellous italian restaurant by the same street.in the evening after hours of walks we decided to order room service and relax!the second day we went to the castle-indeed what a castle!we visited an enormous church there and we strolled around the narrow roads.it was really beautiful having coffee in the lubkowitz palace with views over prague.in the evening we had dinner in flambe restaurant-nothing really special but definatelly upper class.the third day we went to the castle again and it was nice to find out that an exibition about mayan gold was taking place.it was interesting cause i have never seen such items before.we visited the toy museum and we listened to a concert in lubkowitz palace after that we visited the palace.also we visited the inside of the midieval castle and a gallery close by.

the old city and the famous carls bridge was a nice experience.in the evening we went to the state opera house and watched a great performance of the swan lake-a thing to remember!dinner at the zlata roof top restaurant in intercontinental. the fourth day was a day for shopping in paris str. and the streets around for some crystals and presents for our 12 months old baby boy-beautiful wooden toys. the christmas market was a nice place to stroll around.dinner at villa richter.on the fifth day we visited a museum by the hilton area i don%26#39;t recall its name but it was about a famous czech architect and history of prague.lunch at the hilton (its huge!)and walks, walks, walks!dinner at the pravda restaurant.the sixth day we visited the jewish quarters and the synagoge.we had an early dinner in four seasons hotel and flew back home.

in general we had a very good time while in prague.it is a beautiful city with no doubt at all.czech people are friendly and polite especially with greeks(everywhere you looked you could see greek tourists).the cold was very strong but we were properly dressed with very warm clothes so this was not a big problem after all.we would like to be less crowded in some parts cause it ruined the atmosphere of the city especially the large groups of tourists which we are not very fond of.also the city is really expensive-we expected to be cheaper than grecce but it was as expensive as in greece in some things even more.czech wine is delicious!everywhere we went we drunk only czech wine i wish we had some in greece too.the other thing we did not like exept from the multipopulated tourist groups(!)were the millions of souvenir shops all around the city which were selling from bottle openers to many hundreds of euros crystalware-it gave a very touristic feeling if you understand what i mean.ah!and another thing the christmas decoration was rather poor we would like to see something more.safety was not a problem.everywhere we went we felt safe.

we were very pleased that we chose prague for our christmas holidays-it was a trip to be remembered.it is certainly a city worth to visit.maybe next time will visit prague during summer-i think it it will be a tottaly new experience.happy new year to all of you.

Lovely report, I too love the local wines.

Happy New year.

Slight correction - Moravian wine, not strictly Czech (as in české). Moravians are quite protective about it :)

But a good and fair report. Thanks for sharing your impressions!

yes!that%26#39;s right.in a restaurant when we told them that we love czech wine they told us something about moravia.from what we could understand it is a region with excellent quality wines.

|||

It certainly is - next time you should visit, using Brno as your base - there are hundreds of Greek medical students here so you should feel at home!

Not strictly true about wine, Bohemia also produces wine, Melnik region, although not as much as Moravia.

|||

Muller Thurgau and Bohemian Sekt ..lovely.

Rulandske bile,Tramin, Veltinske......very nice.

|||

I was waiting for that one! :)

You used to be able to get Bohemia Sekt in the Co-op in the UK but I believe they%26#39;ve stopped it now. You would think that wines like Muller Thurgau would go down well in the UK - apparently it is also grown there as well as the chalky soil (as in Moravia) creates excellent conditions.
