traveling on our own- speaks only english- help

How difficult is it to travel in the Czech Republic on our own without a guide or tour group without knowing the language?

would i be able to buy bus/train tickets etc. between cities if I only speak english?

Millions of people go to the Czech Republic without knowing any Czech (indeed they don%26#39;t expect tourists to be able to speak it), but it helps to know a couple of simple words, the main ones should be listed in all phrase books.

Buying tickets is quite straightforward - just write down the name of the place that you want to go to, how many people, the time/date and that%26#39;s it.

You%26#39;ll be fine!

GCEK is 100% correct. I do not speak Czech and am fine when I go. The only times I have had challenges is when I get waaaayyyy off the beaten path but many don%26#39;t venture that far. But even then I don%26#39;t mind a wee little bit as I memorize about 20 phrases ahead of time and take along my trusty Czech phrasebook.

Very, very simple to purchase tickets and such without knowing Czech. Most folks at booths and kiosks and tourist information offices know English fairly well.

I personally would not even consider going with a tour group - you can easily do it on your own. It is probably the simplest country I%26#39;ve ever driven in and navigated.

Have fun!

I had some problems in Spain at the bus stations- in Madrid no less. So, it is go to hear.

You%26#39;d be surprised how far you get without knowing the language - there is always a way of making yourself understood should push come to shove, and it sometimes leads to interesting experiences!

Of course not everyone is going to understand you, but if you go prepared as suggested you%26#39;ll be ok - I suggest you don%26#39;t try and pronounce some of the places that you might want to go to as you might get some funny looks - It is not the easiest language to get your tongue around if you are a beginner :)

I agree with chefathome - tours are usually just money-making exercises and if you have a good guide book you can do just as well and in your own time.

Enjoy!
