thanks and brief trip report

just a quick thank you for the advise we received before our recent trip to Prague.(29/12 - 01/01)

firstly, arrival and the public transport system - easy peasy - thanks to PennyLane for advice, we took the bus and then the tram - 26krowns for a ticket that lasts 75 minutes - about 1/10th the cost of a taxi and much more fun.

Hotel Savoy - fantastic. Great Breakfast, a good 15 minute walk downhill into town, 20 minutes back uphill, but tram 22 is there right outside the door if you%26#39;re feeling lazy. Hotel also provided Champagne and Cake for my wife%26#39;s Birthday (unprompted by me - they must have noticed her passport - I really should have told my wife that I arranged it!)

We went to all the main Tourist sights, and did a very interesting walking tour (from Old Town Square) and learned about the Communist years and 1968 etc...really good, helped by the fact that we were the only 3 on the tour.

Food - I would say OK - not %26#39;fantastic%26#39; but not bad either. Beer however gets 10/10!

We went to an Ice Hockey match at the O2 Areana - cheap - £20.00 for the three of us, travelled by metro. Very enjoyable, impressive arena and a good game (4-3 to Slavia Prague)

Weather - COLD - no, sorry, VERY VERY COLD!! but no rain/snow. We knew what it was going to be like so went prepared and were fine.

As a City, we really enjoyed Prague, it%26#39;s a beautiful place, with lots to see. I would like to go back in the Spring when wandering around without 15 layers on is possible, and perhaps when it%26#39;s a little less busy, and when the Pound is worth a little more. (All the Uk guide books work on 40 Kr to the Pound - we got 27/28, so found everything except beer expensive.)

All in all a great place to spend a long weekend - good fireworks on NY eve as well.

Once again, many thanks for your help.

Thanks for the trip report. We%26#39;re going to be there in March (Mar 13-20) and were interested in seeing a hockey game as well. Can you let me know how you found out about game schedules and which metro station the O2 Arena is at.

Hello Billy, glad you enjoyed Prague, and missed no games in the UK as they were called off!! Prague is getting expensive for us sterling earners, and not just Prague everywhere else too. But thankfully the beer in Prague is still a very good value. -:)

As regards the Ice hockey matches, the season officially ends towards the end of February, and then what follows are series of play offs but no dates have yet been published. So you will need to wait a little bit longer.

Thanks very much Penny! I%26#39;ll check the website closer to when we leave.

I hope you will be luckier than I was in your country when I wanted to see Toronto Maple Leafs - no chance there getting a ticket!

Check again end of February, all games to follows would have been decided by then.

Have a great trip.

Hi, just a quick one to the hockey - the games will be held at the stadiums of the teams that are in the play-offs. So, I would sugest to check before you go. Tickets are harder to get as it gets closer to the final.
