How cold is prague in february?

My boyfriend and I are going to Prague in February [he doesn%26#39;t know yet it%26#39;s his christmas present] but I%26#39;ve just realised that I have no idea how cold it is then...or how easy it is too travel about?!! what kind of weather can i expect?

Also, how do you get from the airport to residence mala strana? do people speak english? and how do you say please and thank you in czech?

any other recommendations for a cheap pint and non-touristy things to do will be gratefully received! thanks.

February should not be much more than zero and can go down to minus 10. Residence Mala Strana on Melnicka has good tram connections to the old town and the castle but this can be walked to in 20 minutes if you want.

Public transport to the hotel from the airport involves too mnay changes, so you either take a taxi, the Cedaz minibus at the airport or arrange for a private shuttle with one of the companies like www.prague-airport-shuttle.com. Also ask the hotel what the cost of a transfer is.

most people you come across in the tourist area will be able to speak enough English

Great questions. I%26#39;ll be in Prague then too. Wish mine was a Christmas present! I%26#39;m jealous.

I too am curious what there is to do when it%26#39;s this cold.

Except for sunbathing and perhaps rowing a punt in the river, I%26#39;d say you can do anything in February that you can any other time. OK, basking in the sun on a bench with a book may be out, too. A few of the out-of town castles aren%26#39;t open in the winter, and some places have shortened hours, but all in all the sights and events are still there, and with the great public transportation you don%26#39;t have to walk for endless miles in the cold to get to places. The tram is very inexpensive and simple to use -the Metro likewise. You%26#39;re luck to be staying in Mala Strana - it%26#39;s the nicest area and very central. I%26#39;ll be there from Feb 1 to the 15th - my third February trip to Prague. Hope to see you at the St. Nicholas Cafe! (cheap cold Pilsner, good atmosphere.)

Thanks for the feedback. I%26#39;ve booked the prague airport shuttle, so thanks for the tip.

I can%26#39;t wait to return. I was there a few years back when I interrailed and there were lots of babies around the town with no faces!

Where do you buy tickets for the tram etc? are they onboard or do you have to get them from kiosks.? thanks for the name of the pub,any more recommendations? any cheap restaurants?

last thing, does anyone know the czech for please and thank you.

The babies are crawling all over the TV tower now.

Tickets you can buy at kiosks or at the Metro stations. Some hotels provide them for their guests.

If you like Mexican, try Cantina, quite close to your residence. Or mediterranian food at Guitane, street Trziste, across the street St. Nicholas Cafe.

thanks again for the replies. my boyfriend and i will definintely be looking for a warm cozy pub, not too touristy but easy going to tourists.

me and my girlfriend are off to prague on the 10th feb. we where there new year and it was minus 10. to get from the airport get either the 100 (to zlicin),225 (to stodulky) or 179 (nove butovice) bus to the metro and then take the metro to narodni trida. It should take about 30minutes altogether. Ticket prices are 100czk (about £3.70) for a 24 hour pass you can get these from the red and yellow ticket machines at the airport or at the newsagents or at the prague public transport info centre. Please remember to validate your ticket by stamping it at the machine on the bus near the doors.

if you need to know anything else let me know....

Residence Mala Strana is a great choice of hotel! Central, but not too central. I have stayed here approx 8 times - going there this week for 5 nights. It is within relatively easy walking distance of most of the sights (castle, Old Town Square/Stare Mesto, Charles Bridge, Wenceslas Sq.etc.

Re. pronounciation Please = Prosim

(PRO as in PROfit, and sim as in SIM card

Thankyou = Dekuji (pronounced DICKWEE)

To sound like a local you can also say Thankyou Very Much = Dekuji Mots (pronounced DICKY MOTS)

Your hotel is near (3 min walk) to the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, if you like Mexican food. Its very affordable and has a great atmosphere at night. It gets busy after 8.30pm, so you may need to reserve a table. Its so good that the Mexican embassy have their Xmas party here every year. The restaurant is called Cantina, address 38 Ujezd.

Have a great visit!
