Hi folks,
Coming to Prague in 4 weeks for my 4th trip and can%26#39;t wait. On the 2nd day we%26#39;re going to Plzen for a day trip and wondered if the following words would get me 2 return tickets?
Dva zpatecni listek
Praha - Plzen @ 10.11
Prosim
Is the above correct folks or can i improve it.
(with a toothy grin at the friendly ticket vendor maybe?)

Not bad - change the %26#39;dva%26#39; to %26#39;dvakrat%26#39; and that should do the trick!
You don%26#39;t need to put the time at the ticket is valid for all trains. It should be 111 Crowns each way (therefore 222 in total, or therabouts).
|||
I would say %26quot;Prosím dva zpáteční lístky do Plzně.%26quot;
It%26#39;s Czech grammar - declination of nouns and adjectives and plural etc.
BTW %26quot;1 zpáteční lístek%26quot; but %26quot;2 zpáteční lístky%26quot; and %26quot;5 zpátečních lístků%26quot; = 1 / 2 / 5 return ticket(s)
Are you going by second or first class?
If you buy %26quot;skupinová zpáteční jízdenka%26quot;, group return ticket for 2 people (2nd class only) the whole trip would cost 396,- CZK for both of you instead of 528,- CZK for two separate return tickets or instead of 4x147=588,- CZK for 4 separate tickets.
The more people the lower price per person (till 30 people).
So I would say: %26quot;Prosím skupinovou zpáteční jízdenku pro 2 osoby z Prahy hl.n. do Plzně.%26quot;
You wouldn%26#39;t need to say the time or date, but if you want, you can write:
---
Prosím skupinovou zpáteční jízdenku pro 2 osoby
Praha hl. n. -%26gt; Plzeň hl.n.
odjezd dnes v 10:11
---
Translation (in the order of the words) = Please group return ticket for 2 people Prague main st. -%26gt; Pilsen main st. departure today at 10:11.
Your train number is R 756, end station Františkovy Lázně.
They might not understand %26quot;@%26quot;. (I know it%26#39;s %26quot;at%26quot;.)
After you get the ticket say (or write)
%26quot;Děkuji.%26quot; or %26quot;Díky.%26quot; = (I) thank you / thanks
BTW %26quot;děkujeme%26quot; means %26quot;we thank you%26quot;.
GCEK, I read your post now, where did you find 111/222 CZK?
|||
I wasn%26#39;t going to go into a grammatical explanation, but even %26#39;2 x do Plzně%26#39; would do (if he wrote 2x Plzeň they might think he was asking for a beer) :)
Please and thank you, although nice to hear, don%26#39;t generally enter the vocabulary of the average ticket office worker, but put it anyway even though you probably won%26#39;t get one back.
Otherwise http://www.jizdenka.cz/ give 111 Crowns - where did your prices come from? If there is a better source of information I will use that in future.
|||
GCEK I see it now. We both used www.jizdenka.cz. You probably overlooked that the price 111,- is for %26quot;Zákaznická jízdenka%26quot; (when you have In-karta) and I used %26quot;Obyčejná jednoduchá%26quot; (without any discounts). So that%26#39;s it.

Thanks for those swift replies folks.
Whats the difference between first and second class?
Is it worth the extra crowns, and how much would it cost?
Thanks in advance

It seems that the first class return ticket for 1 person costs 396,- CZK, so it%26#39;s exactly two-time more expensive (792,- CZK 2 person).
First class car of this train has 9 compartments, each for 6 people and second class cars have 10 compartments, each for 8 people - so there is a little bit more place in the 1st class.
Scheme http://www.vlak.cz/data/C1/vl756_09_v1.htm
Not so many people travel in 1st class so you will be probably alone there and could have the whole compartment for yourselves.
If you want to meet some people then travel 2nd class. It can happen you will have the compartment for yourselves in the 2nd class too. There are fifty 2nd class compartments in that train.
GCEK know the sites on which are photos of trains, I can%26#39;t remember it now.
|||
I have found it. Note that it%26#39;s one year old info (slightly different time shedule) provided by railway fans - your train is there www.vagonweb.cz/razeni/vlak.php… click on %26quot;Photo%26quot; and see how it looks inside ;-)
|||
Gor it - vagonweb is one of my favourites, but they seem to be taking their time putting the new timetable in, and the relevant %26#39;řazení%26#39; (not sure how to put that in English!)
|||
BTW Geeman - if you go to the link above (vagonweb), the first class carriage is the one on the end - the one with the yellow line on the top. You will see that there isn%26#39;t a lot of difference!
