Do not change money at home!

wait till you get to Prague if you must exchange currency and go to a bank. The best is to use an ATM/cashpoint, they are everywhere (including the airport) I just picked up a young English couple who were given CZK 21.00 CZK for GBP 1.00 by their travel agent at home. Even the ripoff bureaux de change give you better than that here!

Any idea what rate we could get from a bank there at the moment?

Best I%26#39;ve seen over here today is 29.09

if you go to a cashpoint that is what you will get, minus any small bank charge, which still works out cheaper than if you change it in a bank/exchange booth. BTW don%26#39;t always believe %26#39;good%26#39; exchange rates you might see on the street - there are pretty much always hidden charges/catches.

Very very true, I think the couple you may have picked up was my girlfriend and I (prague airport shuttle? Mike?).

Anyway, we were ripped off back home, the best exchange rate was definately from an ATM 29ck - £1 and we were only charged £3 for this.

tubacca did you just lift one large amount and only charged £3 for this??

Most UK Bank charge a fixed fee per withdrawal. My bank charges £2 irrespective of the amount withdrawn. Some banks i.e. Nationwide charge nothing.

I am not sure what is the maximum limit you can get out at one go, I%26#39;ve only ever taken max of 5000 Kc.

im getting 28.4 fro ma branch in london

isthat not very close to the ATM in prague??

no fees as well

|||

Very close, but still less - you really might as well hang on!

Good advice from Pivo

Inter-bank rate is usually the best and cards like Nationwide Flexaccount Debit card don%26#39;t have transaction fees. Last time I looked, the flex was best travel tool in Europe, linked to their e savers account.

On a rare occasion, you%26#39;ll find an exchange office offering a slightly better deal, but unless you are changing 1000%26#39;s and have time and effort to find them, it%26#39;s really not worth it.

Vacation time is short enough without worrying about where to change monmey IMO. I use my card without question now all over Europe.

How much do you guys think is a good amount to take for 5 days? If i was going tothe eurozone i%26#39;d be taking about £250 English. But as Prague is so much cheaper would this still be a good amount?
