Hi - Me and my Husband are visiting BRNO next week for 4 days. Is there anywhere nearby (by train) that is worth a visit for a day trip.
Also I%26#39;m just about to start looking but I remember someone saying that there are some good microbreweries in Brno, does anyone have any details?
Thanks

Hotel Pegas is the microbrewery you have probably heard of. Also there is the %26#39;big%26#39; Starobrno brewery which has a good restaurant and pub attached to it on Mendlovo náměstí.
You may not have time to see anything out of the city in four days as there is so much to see and do - http://www.brno.cz/index.php?lan=en (links on the left hand side), but you might want to go to the caves in Blansko www.moravskykras.net/en/moravian-karst.html which is easy to reach by train - c. 20 minutes to Blansko and then get the bus up to the caves (skalní mlýn). It%26#39;s a bit chilly up there at the moment, though, but the caves are open all year round. Also Mikulov - best to get the 9 am bus from the bus station (behind the shopping centre which is behind the rail station), and back again they go every 30 mins or so.
If you feel like a bit of nature you could go to the lake (přehada, locally known as %26#39;prígl%26#39;) - number 1 tram from the station, or 3 or 11 from Česká direction Bystrc and get off at %26#39;přístaviště%26#39; from where you take a short walk to the lake. It should be frozen enough for you to walk across it and it is beautiful. Some good little restaurants and pubs up there as well.
While you are in Brno go to the Spilberk castle, Tugendhat Villa, the cathedral, the Capuchin crypt and its mummified monks, and explore the many baroque churches. Just that should keep you busy for a couple of days.
Enjoy!

Thanks ever so much, that is really really useful. The lake sounds great this time of year though I don%26#39;t think I will risk walking across it!

If you see loads of kids playing ice hockey on it then it is safe :) I have walked, skated (not very well) and swum across that lake in my time so it has something for every season.
Here%26#39;s a little interactive transport map to take a look at http://www.brno.planydopravy.cz/
