Hello everybody!
I seem to get a few days off in the end of this month and want to travel somewhere. Found a good conenction to Prague and am thinking about it. I have travelled a lot, but have never been in Prague, yet. I have heard it is a wonderful city. How safe is it for a girl (40) to travel and be alone in Prague? I will travel alone because I need to stress down and be by myself in peace and quite for a few days. And I CAN relax even if surrounded by millions of people, if I only can be myself and don%26#39;t need to talk to anybody. How is the weather in the end of February? I have of course read the forecasts on world.weather, but still want to check the real experiences of others. WOuld Thursday-Sunday be sufficient? What would be the best way to spend these days? Thank you in advance for advice!

Welcome to Prague. Yes, its a beautiful city but very touristy. I wouldn%26#39;t say Prague is unsafe but it has its usual cases of people being mugged etc. You have to be very careful about your surroundings and stay aware. The bus and train stations are known to be populated by homeless and beggars. The weather in Feb can be cold and windy. But once you are here you will love the place. If you stay just in Prague 2 days are enough. You can use your extra days for day trips. Language is a problem, not in the city centre but outside it, so be warned.

Hi
I%26#39;ve just replied to your post on the Berlin forum, if it were me I%26#39;d probably feel happier walking around Berlin on my own. That%26#39;s just a personal feeling.

As you said Breezer on the Berlin forum, you%26#39;ve never been to Berlin before. Prague is safe and compact for walking. Berlin not so.

Yes but I have been to Prague and even though I wasn%26#39;t on my own walking around we did feel nervous walking around at night. There were a lot of dodgy looking characters hanging around street corners etc...
I wouldn%26#39;t feel comfortable walking around on my own at night in Prague.
I was staying in the centre near Wenceslas Square.

osty said%26gt; I wouldn%26#39;t say Prague is unsafe but it has its usual cases of people being mugged etc.
You know, I have been here 15 years and not once, not once, have I heard of anybody getting mugged on the street. Ostrava, on the other hand, actually is the only place in the Czech Republic where I have felt nervous walking around.
I have asked, over a period of seven years, probably 5000 visitors ( I kind you not, probably a lot more) if they felt concerned walking around Prague during their visit. Just once, about 3 years ago did anyone say yes and they were bothered by some English lads. Often, people say they feel more comfortable and safe here than they do at home!

Breezer, no doubt you are talking about the touts on the top of Wenceslas Square, may I ask, did they actually bother you or did they just look dodgy?

I agree with Praguepivo as concern safety in Prague. The only problem are picpockets, operating in crowded places and public transportation, but I do not have any experience of mugging or other violent crimes during last 22 years I have been living in Prague.
Historical centre is pretty safe and I would particularly recommend left bank area - Little Quarter, Castle (open till midnight) and Hradčany area) and also embankment - iluminated Prague from Old Town embankment is magical (look at photographs in my profile).
As concern weather forecast for late February it looks like cold weather maybe with some frost and snow. Febraury is lowest season as concern numbers of visitors - so no crowds in front of the Astronomical Clock or waiting lines in front of St. Vitus Cathedral.

Thank you all for your kind advice and ideas! I however just learned that it doesn%26#39;t work with the suggested plane connection after all :-(. So, Prague will have to wait to some other occasion with hopefully better weather. But it for sure is on my to-do-list for the coming years. BErlin is now another option for this time. I wish you all a good weekend!
