My mum is planning a trip to Prague by herself in November. She is a little concerned and I am hoping someone can give me information I can pass on.
Firstly, if she arrives by train and stays at the Chopin Hotel (formerly Holiday Inn Express) directly across from the station how easy and safe will it be for her to walk from the station to the hotel at 8pm by herself.
Secondly, can anyone tell me how much a train from Budapest to Prague would cost one way either first class or second class. Also is there a huge difference on either class (I believe that the EC trains are not that different).
Thanks to anyone that will help me out with her questions.

I%26#39;m not sure how much it is from Budapest to Prague - the other way is 19 Euros so it shouldn%26#39;t be that different. You might want to ask in the Hungary forum for that information.
1st v. 2nd - It doesn%26#39;t really matter as the difference is minimal - you just get more space in 1st and it is a lot cheaper.
Some idea of what it looks like inside:
2nd class: www.vagonweb.cz/fotogalerie/H/MAV_Bmz.php
1st class: www.vagonweb.cz/fotogalerie/CZ/CD_Ampz.php
Safety is not really an issue - although the Hotel Chopin is opposite the main railway station, the Budapest train arrives at Holešovice station, which is 3 stops down the red metro line (line C - she should get a train going in the direction of %26#39;Háje%26#39;,and should get off at %26#39;Hlavní nádraží%26#39;. Just make sure that she gets a ticket and validates it!
Hope this helps!

Obviously I should have said %26#39;2nd is a lot cheaper%26#39; :)

Thanks for that information but I think that the train goes into the main station. I have looked on the timetable and there is a train
EC 272 leaving on the 2 Nov at 13.28 and gets into Praha hl.n. at 20.31. Is this the main station or is it a different station?

That%26#39;s the one! Sorry - I assumed they all went to Holesovice, so your mum has nothing to worry about :)
