Hi im booked up to go next month in February, and need to know your thoughts on here about this city ...i took advantage of the Hilton 50% offer!
Im aware the currency is Korona (spelling?) and seems to be 30k to the £ which isnt too bad
luckily it isnt in the Euro ....yet
i think an exchange bureau will give me 28k to the pound..which is quie good.
im staying in Hilton Old Town, how close is this to the places you recommend? please note i booked this hotel through a cheap deal (very chea in fact), im not posh at all!
i knowa few palces to go...sightseeing etc.
but need cheap but good dining places
and cafes (daytime use)
we are going for 3 nights over the weekend, so plan to make the most of it.
not used a transport system before..best method to use from the airport to the hotel and back?? and cheapest?
a day pass would be perfect, any tips
we dont wish to be ripped off..so if i can book in advance or know where to book from that will be great

Your hotel is about 300 m from Municipal House and Powder Tower and about 800 m from Old Town Square.
The nearest stops are Náměstí Republiky (metro station - line B (yellow), trams 5, 8, 14, bus 133) and Masarykovo nádraží (railway station, trams 3, 5, 14, 24, 26).
The closest surrounding of Masarykovo nádraží isn%26#39;t very nice (there is a few of strange people screwing around), but it isn%26#39;t dangerous to go there - I just wanted to say that it isn%26#39;t a place you should get off the tram when visiting Prague first time.
I think the simplest connection between airport and your hotel is this: Take the bus number 100 at the airport and go to it%26#39;s terminal station Zličín. From Zličín go by metro (it%26#39;s line B, Zličín is terminal station) to Náměstí Republiky. Whole ride is about 40 minutes, (15-18 min bus and 23 min metro - 13 stations), the bus goes every 5 to 15 minutes, the metro every 3 minutes. The hotel is about 200 m away from the station.
At night the shedules are different, but I suppose you%26#39;ll arive during the day.
Information about timetables - Prague Public Transport - in English http://194.213.60.4/IDOS/ConnForm.aspx?tt=pid%26amp;cl=E5
Using public transport is the cheapest option - ticket for the way from airport to hotel costs CZK 26,- (+ big luggage another ticket for CZK 13,-) per person. The 1-day ticket (24 hour) costs CZK 100,- and the 3-day 330,- (if you go with children it%26#39;s worh of that +30,- CZK - it%26#39;s valid for 1 adult + 1 child 6-15 years old).
Official sites of Prague Public Transport company (DPP) - info about prices http://www.dpp.cz/en/fares-in-prague/
You can buy your ticket in DPP info centres in Terminal 1 or 2 daily from 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. or in the vending mashines in front of the hall. http://www.dpp.cz/en/ticket-sales/
You can call the DPP (free in CR) 800 19 18 17 daily from 7.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m.
Remember you must validate your ticket(s) in the yelow box in the bus!
And the right spelling of our currency is %26quot;koruna%26quot;, the whole name is exactly %26quot;koruna česká%26quot; (Czech crown), abbrev. %26quot;Kč%26quot;. How the money looks like you can see here (off. sites of Czech National Bank) www.cnb.cz/en/banknotes_coins/banknotes/

Hello Acidhols, the cheapest way to your hotel is by public transport, all the relevant information is posted above.
Another a very good option would be bus 119 from the airport to Dejvicka (terminal station) and tram number 8 which will get you to Namesti Republiky (your hotel nearest stop) - it is about 8 stops, you will get off on the second stop as you pass the river Vltava.
More expensive but very convenient is cedaz minibus
cedaz.cz/…
This costss 120Kc each ( £4) and drops you off directly by the Old Hilton.
A resonably good and relatively inexpensive dining place is in Hybernska (Hybernska Restaurace),a street running parallel to V Celnici, and you get there in about 1 minute going through the passage opposite your hotel, next to Marriott.

Well - 30 to the £ isn%26#39;t THAT great :) I have been here for 17 years on/off and it used to be steady around 56 - even last year it was around 42-ish ...
Use the advice on this forum and get your money from the cashpoint - you won%26#39;t get a better exchange rate. Today%26#39;s exchange rate is c. 30.5, so anyone offering you 28 is on the make.
Hilton Old Town is v. near the centre. All the information you request has been covered extensively on this forum - places to eat, bus/taxi from airport, etc. Use the search box and you will find what you need!

i think we will get the Cedz, at £8 for a one off journey from the airport to the hotel and back as well
its not too bad..
i thought Hilton Old Town was a coveneinet located location..did i presume wrong?
any others stayed here before?

Acidhols
I do not think that is the door to door service for £8 it is this one quoted on their site.
%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;%26lt;Regular shuttle bus transport between Prague - Ruzyně Airport and city centre (%26quot;V Celnici%26quot; street, in front of CSA terminal, 50 m from Republic Square - náměstí Republiky, close to hotels Hilton Prague Old Town and Marriott) (map). Daily every 30 minutes: %26quot;V Celnici%26quot; street - airport: 5:30 am - 9:30 pm. Airport - %26quot;V Celnici%26quot; street: 6:00 am - 9:00 pm.%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;
If you want door to door best to order online you do get a reduced price for a return journey.

Re: %26quot;i thought Hilton Old Town was a coveneinet located location..did i presume wrong?%26quot;
What made you think that? It very close to everything in the centre! :)
|||
I think this is a tiny bit of misunderstanding - £8 or 240Kc is for two people - and the bus stops at V Celnici next to the Old Town Hilton.

thanks for responses, its cheaper for a bus to stop nearer the hotel i found through cedaz
anymore advice?
