Hello. My husband and I are coming to Prague in a few weeks. We have never been to Prague, but he lived for a few years in Germany/Switzerland. He LOVES Weissbier. We are staying in the Old Town area, can you recommend any authentic brewpub for a GREAT beer at a good price? Also, is there any interesting tours of breweries that are around that vicinity? Thank you so much!

I am certainly not trying to steal away with Pivero%26#39;s thunder, but the %26quot;Weißbier%26quot; in your post caught my attention. That is also my favorite brew (and my wife%26#39;s favorite too!) and the pub Pivovar u Bulovky brewes up maybe the best tasting Weißbier we have ever tasted. But, it%26#39;s a bit hard to find being a bit removed from the Old Town tourist area. Check my previous post of 27 January. I did make a mistake on the name of the pub, it%26#39;s Pivovar u Bulovky but the directions should help you somewhat. Pivero has a link in his blog that has more info on the pub that I wished I had seen before our last trip. Hope you make it there, it%26#39;s a great place!

Here I am!
There are several options for weissbier in Prague. Primátor has a very decent one (the only industrial wheat beer at the moment), it%26#39;s on tap at quite a few places in Prague, but right now I can%26#39;t think of any one in the centre. The most tourist friendly I can remember are U Sadu (…blogspot.com/2008/02/u-sadu.html) or Pivovarský Klub (http://gastroinfo.cz/pivoklub).
The above mentioned Richter has a very nice Weizen as well, it is far from the centre, but not difficult to get there, trams 10 and 24 will take you directly, you will have to get off at the stop Bulovka and then walk a bit (…blogspot.com/2008/…richter-brewery-pub.html)
The closest to the centre, and one with a really good wheat beer is Pivovarský Dum (http://gastroinfo.cz/pivodum)
About brewery tours, well, you can go to Staropramen, but why bother? Better would be to go to Pivovar Benešov, they brew Ferdinand, they still use open fermenters, so it will be a more interesting visit (not to mention that their beers are FAR, FAR superior to those from Smíchov). The town isn%26#39;t far from Prague and it is very easily reached by regular trains or buses. On top of that, you could also visit Konopiště Castle (though I%26#39;m not 100% sure it is opean, or what is open).
As for brewpubs, you can have a look at my blog, I%26#39;ve reviewed several of them, not only in Prague …blogspot.com/search/label/Brewpubs
Na Zdraví!
