Policie

What is the difference between the Policie ČR and the městská policie? Are their powers different? Presumably they have different responsibilities.

Undoubtedly - why do you want to know?

The městká policie (or %26#39;City Police%26#39;} have powers that differ from city to city and are subject to local bye-laws. They can be compared in the UK to the %26#39;Community Protection Officers%26#39;, but maybe with a few more powers. They are mainly used for local public order and traffic duties and they are the ones that you will mostly see on beat work in the city.

The task of the Policie ČR (State Police) covers all aspects of upholding the law, detective work, etc, on a local and national basis.

This is of course very concise, but I hope it clears it up for you a bit.

Short info in English on official websites of ČR:

czech.cz/en/…

You can recognize MP in Prague - photos (texts in Czech only):

www.mppraha.cz/o-mestske-policii/oznaceni/

What you find under those links (not translation):

Funkční označení - epaulettes

Jednotící prvky - cap, badge

Uniformy - uniforms

Technika a prostředky - cars (Dvoustopá vozidla), motorcycles (Jednostopá vozidla), boats (Plavidla), horses (Koně)

It%26#39;s a pity I haven%26#39;t found any (official) information about PČR uniforms and cars.

There are now two types of colouring state police cars - old are white with green stripe and new are silver with blue and yellow stripes.

Some photos (from parade on 28th October) are here policie.cz/fotogalerie/prehlidka-2008.aspx

Did anybody knows about some pages showing uniforms?
