4 night stay

looking to book up in march with my girlfriend for 4 days and was wondering how much i should bring cash wise?

will be eating out and having a few drinks every day plus doin a few tours or probably just walking around ourselves

ive been 3 times before but that was with a group of lads for a cheap booze break and the last time was feb 2007 when you could get 42 czk to the £

what would be a decent budget taking into account prices in prague, not to live like kings but not to live like paupers either?

|||

I would say around £30-40 per person per day for lunch, dinner, transportation and entry fees. This is to eat well (no fast food), but not extravagantly.

With the pound being as it is by March you may need a bit more or a bit less.

TORII

and don%26#39;t take it with you, take it from the cashpoint when you get there, or you%26#39;ll get even less for your pound.

|||

I agree with TORII but I%26#39;d say more £40 a day than £30, especially at the current exchange rate of 29.1 CZK to the pound - close to a record low.

As GCEK says don%26#39;t change money before you go. Use credit/debit cards and the local cash machines.

|||

but who knows what will happen to sterling by March, sometimes it%26#39;s good to have some foreign currency in cash. (or in the bank)

|||

can i use a maestro card at prague cash points?

will it tell me how much im lifting in pounds aswell as czk? dont want to lift cash out then get home a realise i have nothing left in my account lol

is the rate bettert using a cashmachine once over in prague?

i usually just take all my cash over already changed into local currency

Answers to your questions:

1. Yes

2. No - you should keep tabs on that separately. Surely you%26#39;re not going to spend that much? :)

3. Yes

4. Possibly the worst thing you could do wherever you go if you are watching the pennies a) because you will pay an extortionate commission combined with a terrible exchange rate and b) it will just burn a hole in your pocket.

However, the way the pound is going at the moment, maybe it%26#39;s not such a bad idea... :)

You can use maestro card in Prague cash points, but it does not tell you the conversion rate, as far as I remember. So personally, i never know how much sterling it is until I see the bank statement or log on line.

|||

Justreturned myself from 4 days-3 nights in prague. Me and significant other spent anout £250 all in.This was from airport to aiport!

We ate and drank well plus some shopping. Always used public transport and did some tourist attractions

|||

i have noticed a few places advertising prices in euro?

what should i bring with me?

czech koruna or euro????

i presume czech but better safe than sorry

|||

As stated above, do not take either - take your cashpoint card.

If you take Euros you will be hit by the double whammy of changing your hard-earned pounds into Euros and then being charged a rubbish exchange rate in the few places that accept Euros in Prague - it is not legal tender, and those places where you can pay in Euros are generally overpriced anyway.

Go ahead and change your money in the UK if you wish - it is yours to do what you want with :) You just won%26#39;t get as good an exchange rate as if you take it out of the wall.
