Travelling out of Prague with Eurail global pass

Hi,

I%26#39;ve been searching the forum and Internet, none of them really answer my questions. I was wondering if anyone have been in the same situation and could help me with these questions.

Since the Global pass doesn%26#39;t cover Prague, how do I purchase tickets traveling to and from Prague? Each way would involve traveling on an overnight train.

Do I have to purchase a point to point ticket? For instance, Brussels to Prague and Prague to Vienna?

Or do I just need a ticket from and to the Czech border?

You just buy a ticket where you need it. You can also get a ticket on the train, but be careful, in the CR YOU have to find the conductor and tell him you have no ticket. If he comes to the cabin and askes you first, he can give you a fine for dodging to pay the far.

I also got a global pass for spring.

right, it%26#39;s not good for Prague :(

Any overnight trains, even just for a seat, needs reservations, so make them ASAP.

Try to find the lines that service Prague and use their website for tickets/reserv.

Prague to Vienna is easy - you don%26#39;t need a reservation, and just buy your ticket to Breclav - 291 Crowns second class (currently AUD 21.50), then your pass will kick in.

Coming from Brussels you could come in from any one of several directions - from Nurenberg, Dresden, Mannheim, etc - shortly after the border a conductor will come around and you just buy the ticket from the border to Prague. I have done it loads of times and you shouldn%26#39;t need to worry. Again with reservations - it says in many places that it is compulsory, but in practise it is not the case. They are hardly going to chuck you off the train, and there is always space. It is just another way to squeeze extra money out of passengers.

If you haven%26#39;t bought your Eurail pass yet, I would advise you to reconsider as it usually works out cheaper to get point-to-point tickets, unless you are planning to make several very long-distance journeys in the time allotted. If you do it fsar enough in advance, there are some very good deals to be had (but NOT through Raileurope!)
