Getting from main train station to rental apartment

Hello

We arrive at the main train station on a Friday afternoon (Mar 13) about 3:00 pm and need to get to our rental apartment near the National Theatre (on Opatovicka). There are 4 of us and we will have 3 suitcases (medium size)

I%26#39;ve read numerous posts and guidebooks that suggest you should not take a taxi from the train station, or phone AAA or City Taxi instead. According to the AAA taxi website, they have a taxi rank outside the train station, so wouldn%26#39;t we be okay to just find a yellow AAA taxi and ask them to take us to our apartment? Even with AAA, would you recommend confirming the fare before getting in (I know the fare should be about 200 Kc). Would it also be best to have a copy of a map of central Prague with our location marked, or would this insult the taxi driver? Is it also standard practice to tip taxi drivers?

Taking the metro is not really an option as we have to transfer and still walk about 400 metres from Narodni Trida stop.

Appreciate any suggestions you may have.

Thanks

From the main station to your hotel is probably a 10-15 minute walk at most, but you will get lost doing that. The ride will be worth $10. Tip if you are treated fairly.

I think it%26#39;s better to call some well-known company unless you want to be a victim of some fake taxis pretending to be a well-known taxi company. And when you are 4 people with luggage - they should know it and they will arrange bigger car.

I think the map isn%26#39;t necessary because the drivers know the center very well. But I recommend you to write the adress on a piece of paper to be sure that the driver understood you where you want to go - so you can write it on the map if you want.

There is an public transport option - taking tram number 9 and getting off after 7 minutes ride at Národní třída (18,- CZK per person). But I understand the taxi will be more convenient when you have luggage - the tram station Hlavní nádraží is about 200 m from the railway station and Národní třída is another 400 m as you have mentioned.

Dwalker,

AAA is great and very reasonable. We used a larger cab for 2x26%26quot; and 1x24%26quot; pieces and 3 adults.

You might need 2 cabs?

Our fare mid January from Novy Svet by the Castle to the main train station was 8 euros.

I agree about writing the address because it can be misunderstood when spoken and no need to take the chance.

Opatovicka is most definitely more than 15 minutes walk. Just take a taxi outside the main station. Not everybody is a rip off merchant.

Thanks for the advice - I think we%26#39;ll take our chances with a taxi.
