Hi all,
I%26#39;ve never been to Prague before and would like to take my wife for her 30th birthday, I could do with some advice on a few points...
What is the weather like in late February. I know its going to be very cold, but is it cold %26amp; grim or cold %26amp; crisp?
Are the crowds smaller at this time of year (a week after Valentines), or do is Prague popular all year round? I assume everything is open at this time of year.
How long is a good length of stay in Prague? 3 days, 1 week?? Also, are there any day trips worthwhile given that its going to snowy and cold travelling outside of the city?
Thanks in advance!

Hi Johnny and welcome to the Prague forum.
I have always found February to be cold and crisp ,just how I like it , It is a lot quieter in Prague at this time of year but not devoid of tourists and yes everything is open as usual.
I always go for a weeks stay but it is a personal choice ,in fact I would stay longer if I gave up my other holidays! A lot of people would not agree with me and say 3 days were long enough but there is so much to see and do I cant possibly see how they fit it all in.

hi all i am also off to prague at the end of february for 3 days and very much looking forward to seeing all the beautiful sites i have heard about.
My one concern is how expensive has it got? As i heard it was just as expensive as dublin which can be very pricey. how much are your drink on average and the cost of meals?
Also been reading some reviews and looking where to stay? have read that by the castle is very nice?

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful four night visit to Prague. With reference to the two queries below, there is some petty crime like pickpocketers about but as long as you are aware and keep some vigilance I think you will find Prague to be a safe city. We experienced cold but crisp and dry days. There are lots of tourists around but nothing like I would imagine the summer to be. For instance you can walk across the Charles Bridge easily, the same applies to St Vitas Cathedral and the tomb of St. Wencelas. We did not experience anything closed for the winter.
We last visited Prague five years ago and yes the cost of everything has certainly risen since then. Most of this I believe down to the exchange rate.I think we got 45Kr to the pound then, last weekend it was only 29.
Because of this we did economise a little, for instance the last time we used a taxi to and from the airport this time we used local transport. A number 100 bus (every 15 minutes)to Zlicon metro and then metro to our hotel in the Andel area (26Kr each). We also ate each evening in the Andel area, plenty of good restuarants, we found it definately cheaper than in the very centre of Prague. Each night we had a two course meal, starter plus main course, glass of wine plus coffee, and was paying about 700Kr. Others things to do, well I love the opera so Saturday night it was Carmen and Sunday afternoon La Boheme. Superb performances with wonderful stage settings. £75 for four seats. Sunday afternoon performances by the way are half the cost of normal evening ones, excellent value for money. We booked on the Bohemia web site, here you choose your seats from a seating plan, pay for them by credit card and then print of your ticket on your printer. So easy, why oh why is it not so easy in the UK?.

Thanks for your report so glad to hear you had a lovely time,I agree with you about the increase in prices but I still think you can find a good deal eating out if you stay out of the center.
