Nightlife in Brno

Looking for some advice around the best bars and nightclubs in Brno. I hear it%26#39;s a great city and my friends and I will be passing through in a couple of weeks - any advice?

It is indeed a great city - what sort of places were you looking for? I should point out, though, that it is not a %26#39;party city%26#39; and nightclubs as such are a bit thin on the ground, especially in the centre, most people preferring to go to the local with friends. Many people make the mistake of going there and expecting it all to be %26#39;happening%26#39; in the centre, but this is not the case in Brno.

However, there is Charlies on Kobližná which looks small from the outside - it is just a hole in the wall, but when you get inside it is extensive and consists of underground tunnels built into the catacombs. There is always a party on there, especially on Friday nights (the main going-out night). Saturdays and Sundays tend to be a bit quieter.

The best nightclubs are not in the centre - Fléda http://www.fleda.cz/ which has something on almost every night and there is always a young crowd there - mostly techno if you%26#39;re into that. Also Mersey on Minská is very good and is open into the small hours. It used to be (not sure any more) the only nightclub that I know that if you felt the need to %26#39;get a room%26#39;, they had one available for such a purpose ;) You will need to get a tram to find both those places.

The city is dotted with great bars and pubs - just take your pick, but venture out of the centre for the ones where the locals go - some of the best ones are along Veveří Street - Jim Beam, Four Roses, Laguna, etc., also Potrefená husa which is opposite the Church of St. Tomas - go to the end of Česká Street and turn right, and of course Hotel Pegas with is right in the centre - it has one of the country%26#39;s best microbreweries.

Hope this helps as a start, anyway!

Thanks for getting back to me. Charlies sounds great as do Fleda and Mersey. I%26#39;m looking for some great pubs for the daytime, restaurants and bars for the evening and then clubs after that.

I have some business to take care of (property) on the Thursday afternoon but then we have Thursday night, all day Friday, all say Saturday and then leave on a Sunday afternoon.

Any other specific recommendations would be much appreciated.

Thanks again.

Get some sightseeing in while you are there as well rather than sitting in a pub all day :)

As I say, there are loads of good pubs everywhere, almost on every corner, so apart from Pegas in the centre I have no particular recommendations.

The same goes for restaurants. It is not like Prague where they can be a bit iffy - tourists don%26#39;t come to Brno that much so there is no %26#39;ripping off%26#39; as such going on - the locals are highly discerning and if they thought stuff like that was going on the place wouldn%26#39;t last very long, likewise with quality - if it was no good, nobody would go there. End of story.

Some very good places on Starobrněnská Street as well behind the cathedral at the top of Zelný trh. Also Livingstone is a good studenty hang=out. Ask around and someone will point you in the right direction - it%26#39;s a bit complicated to describe, but basically if you are on the main square (náměstí Svobody), go through the passageway under the big glass-fronted bank and it is on your left on dominikánské naměstí opposite the big church with the two spires.

Enjoy1
